Meet our Committee

Running the sort of club that we want to join.

Merstham Women's Group is run by a committee of volunteers.  We are all members, some of us for many years, some of just newly joined.

We give up our time because we want to have a club like this in our village, somewhere that women can meet without having to spend money, run a charity event or take up a whole new hobby.  We want to have a space where we can try out new activities, meet friends old and new and go on outings.

We always need more help.  If you have a skill or experience that you think you can bring to help us out then please do talk to us.  We are looking for people who can make tea, do book keeping, find ideas for new events, like organising things, enjoy running stalls at fairs, and people or who want to help out where they can.

All of these roles need more than one volunteer.  We are all busy people with all the sorts of commitments women build up so the more that we can spread the work load, the better it runs for all of us.

Chairs meetings, overseas general planning, steps in at the last minutes, liaises with everyone else.  We really need an assistant chair person to spread the workload.

Writes up the accounts, helps out on the welcome desk at meetings, pays speakers and other costs, prepares the cash float for stalls and helps with the front desk jobs.  We need an assistant treasurer as this is a big job.

We really really need help with managing the web site and Facebook page.  Ideally, this voluntter would undertake to update the web site, keep an eye on social media and write and send the newsletter every month.

The welcome desk person is one of our most important volunteers, they meet everyone at the door, take all the payments and answer all the questions.  They always need help, one is never enough!

Every year we do two, possibly three summer fairs. Our stalls are mainly for marketing and making sure we are part of the comunity but it would be good to have one person who looks after the bookings, knows where the price tags are this year and acts as central contact.

Our book club coordinator works with Merstham Library to make sure that the chosen books are in stock.  They manage the email list and make sure sure everyone knows when the next meeting will be.

We would like to increase the range of outdoor activity options we run. We are always asked for walks, gardens and trips but we need someone to help make these things happen.

The refreshment team keep us all going.  We need at least two volunteers to run the tea, coffee and biscuits stand at the start of every meeting.  These ladies arrive at about 7.15 to get the kettle on and set up and start serving from about 7.45.  They also wash up afterwards.

Every meeting has been pre-booked but the meeting organiser will contact the speaker a good few weeks before the meeting to check that they are still coming, that they have directions and whether they need us to provide any equipment.

Last year we ran some very successful craft workshops. Unfortunately the organisers are having trouble even finding time to get together to start thinking of what to do this year.  They need some inspiration and help to keep things going.
