This year is suddenly racing by. I do hope you’re enjoying the summer. If you’re away on holiday with your families, I hope you are having a wonderful time. If you’re home, why not check out some of the regular events Merstham Women’s group host and come along. Often the ones during the week at the hub are free- just turn up with a cup of tea - hopefully a café at the hub may magically reopen in September but believe it when you see it. Check out our website and Facebook page for details or drop us an email.

After our extremely successful Tai Chi evening in early July at Mercers Lake, we’ll rerun the event on a lovely evening at Merstham recreation ground on a Thursday evening.  £5 per person – all welcome – friends. Husbands, children. Date and time to be advised.

We will be hosting a stall at Quality Street Fair on Sunday 7th September from 11am to 3pm. We’d love some of you to spend an hour or two on the stall to promote our group and chat to passers-by about us and invite them to come along. If you can bake a cake or create something crafty to sell on our stall that would be awesome

Our big event in October is our folk night - we’re hosting a barn dance at Merstham village hall – Set up from 6pm, music from 7pm – break for raffle prizes and tea then more dancing from 9pm. Close just after 10pm. Bring own drinks. Tickets £15 per adult, £10 for children from 12-15, 11’s and under free entry. We will have posters to go in local shops, community centres, libraries, social media. Please do share with friends, groups and acquaintances – we want a full hall (the hall takes up to 200 people). Food options to be decided but there will be cake. Alan Atkinsons Ceilidh band are our band and will be brilliant. Even if you don’t dance just come and enjoy the music and talk to friends.

For details and tickets go to https://www.mersthamwomensgroup.com/event-details/barn-dance-2 (tickets can also be bought at our meetings or Quality Street fair)

Our next Tuesday event on 9th September will be an interesting talk by Kathy Atherton on Myths from the Blitz.  She is an excellent and entertaining speaker who we’ve had before, so please come as a member or a visitor.

On an attendance note, we have over 400 people registered on our Facebook page. Often less than 20 attend real life events. If 10% to 20% of you can attend, it makes organising events worthwhile. Good quality speakers and hall hire are a financial cost to the group, and it can be disappointing for us and to speakers to attend a near empty hall. We are an incredibly friendly and economically priced group and open to ALL women in Merstham and surrounding areas. We can provide a safe friendly local meeting space for you all and we welcome you with a free hot drink and a smile.

Please do pop down occasionally. At £3 for a local event, you’d be hard pressed for a cheaper evening out. It’s not necessary to book our Tuesday evenings. Just turn up from 7.30pm.  A high attendance on a Tuesday means we can advertise and take bookings in person for other events outside a Tuesday event. These events can include garden visits, theatre and film trips, pub nights, walks and more. We’re also happy to offer lifts to those who need one and we’re 3 minutes’ walk from the bus stop for the 430/435 bus.

We look forward to meeting you. Next month we’ll be strongly promoting our folk dance, and we’ll be talking about (in hushed tones) Christmas…..
