Films, Fun and Folk (and we're moving)

I do hope this blog finds you well. If you’re currently on holiday or are planning to go away, we hope the weather is kind to you and you come to our next meeting with some interesting stories of your travels. If you’re sticking around Merstham and at a loose end, don’t forget to drop by the hub on Portland Drive for a free coffee and a chat on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday in the morning. Bring your own on Saturday as the Hub Caff is shut.

I am sure many of you are already aware that our monthly meetings are moving in September to Merstham Baptist Church. Unfortunately, All Saints have decided to slip in an extra booking between the rainbows and Merstham Women’s Group on Monday which sadly means we can’t officially start our meetings until after 8pm if we remain at Canada Hall. As a committee, we took the decision this was unfair on a lot of our members to be out later in the evening on a Monday night, especially in winter months. We thought long and hard about this and didn’t take the decision lightly.

NEW VENUE FROM SEPTEMBER

Tuesday 11th September

7.30pm

MERSTHAM BAPTIST CHURCH

Weldon Way

This Monday 12th August at 7.30pm – we will be meeting at Canada Hall as usual for the final time. We have a really interesting talk from Holmesdale Natural History club. Come along on Monday and share your thoughts before our formal talk starts. The talk will be an interesting one and a revised programme for the rest of the year will be handed out.

There is plenty of free roadside parking at Merstham Baptist. We will offer lifts to those unkeen to walk there in the dark and the bus stop is less than three minutes’ walk if you chose to arrive by public transport. The church is a smaller venue – very cosy and rather nice inside – we think you’ll like it.

I’m sure if you’ve followed our social media posts, emails and website, our 2 big events coming up for you to invite your family and friends to.  Our film night at the Merstham Hub on 28th September – practice your best Abba singing, bring some change for snacks and enjoy an escape to a Greek island as we watch Mamma Mia.  Bring a cushion and a friend or two -book your tickets at a meeting, online or in person on the night. 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Suitable for adults and children. It’s a bargain at £4.

Our next big event for friends and family is in November. Join us for an evening of folk music on Saturday 16th November at 7pm at Canada Hall with the CoHorts band – £10 – again suitable for children so invite friends, partners, family – we’ll provide tea and coffee – bring your own alcoholic drinks – there will be a raffle with some fabulous prizes.  It’s going to be a wonderful night of fun, song and friendship.

If you’re at a loose end on 31st August, before our own movie night, Merstham Movies will be showing another classic – The Greatest Showman – there are some cracking tunes in it and the lead actors are Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron and Zendaya – pop into the hub between 9.30 and 3pm for a ticket Monday to Friday or call 01737 333461 during those same hours.

Some ladies continue to meet during the week at the hub and we will be running monthly pub evenings - do check out the website and Facebook page for events. I am also looking into some outdoor events and local am dram theatre. Keep in touch and keep looking.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday evening for our final regular meet at Canada Hall. I won’t mention Christmas yet , oops I just did…..
