I do hope you all had a lovely Easter – the nights are getting lighter, and summer is well and truly here. For some of you with teenage children I appreciate exam stress is getting on top of you. For others, the excuse to get out and about after work in this sunny weather is very tempting. If you’re going out this bank holiday weekend, enjoy your trips. If you’re kids are studying I wish you and them luck – it will all be over by the end of June!
Do pop along to the plant sale at 83a Nutfield Road over the bank holiday weekend of 3/5 May – the variety of plants for sale are phenomenal and the teas, cakes and bacon butties are awesome. A great raffle too – all in a good cause for St Catherines Hospice
Our big fund raiser and social networking event will be All Saints Summer fair on 8th June – our USP is our jam and cake baking – we have a jam making session on 17th May – all welcome and we really need donations of fruit and jars – please get in touch to join in with the jam making. The jam making is a lot of fun!!! And we feed you lunch and cake.
Should you need to destress, we have a special one-off event for MWG – Outdoor Tai Chi at Mercers Park on Thursday 5th June between 6.45 and 8.45 - £5 – suitable for all levels of fitness (and no level of fitness needed at all) This is open to friends and family too so partners and children welcome. The session should be for about an hour but if weather fine, do bring some food/drink to share and maybe we can have a little social afterwards. Or just come and sit and watch us and enjoy the sunset by the lake.
Our next couple of Tuesday meetings coming up are practical gardening tips from Gina Hewitt on 13th May. Gina is a keen member of Merstham Horticultural society and a very knowledgeable and interesting speaker. If you’re planning to go to the plant sale on Nutfield road this weekend, Gina can give you useful tips on where to plant them.
The following month we’re going for a walk – I was planning on a stroll around Reigate Priory Park with a pub visit at the end – or Reigate Heath if preferred.
A Monday (or Friday?) pub visit will be planned soon
Provisional diary date – 4th October for folk night. I’m waiting for confirmation form Merstham Village Hall.
Hold 9th September in your diary – Quality Street fair on – another excellent social and advertising event for us!
Any interest in films and shows? Do share and we’ll book. As weather is so nice, I’m happy to do a local walk one Friday with a trip to the Inn on the Pond for drinks.
Our usual weekly events at the Merstham Hub continue so do join in. We have many silent members on our Facebook page. If you’re looking forward to dipping your toe in to meet us, do come along to our Tuesday meeting or our Tai Chi night. We really would love to meet you in person.
