Here we are in June already – Midsummer brings longer (and hopefully sunnier) evenings and lots of exciting outdoor (and indoor) social events for Merstham Women’s group. Our first event is a relaxing session of Tai Chi by the lake – Russ Bewley, my tai chi instructor from the YMCA will be guiding us through some very gentle moves outdoors from 6.45pm on Thursday 5th June at Mercers Lake - £5 a head in cash. The café at Mercers will be open too – this is open to all – partners, family and friend. There’s something really lovely about exercising outdoors. Do spread the word on this – we need a good crowd. And pray for rain to hold off!!!

Our next REALLY BIG event is (fanfare!!!) ALL SAINTS SUMMER FAIR and dog show on Sunday 8th April. We’ve been working hard, crafting, making jam and more for our stall for THE event of the year. Volunteer for a bit with us for free entry to this lovely, truly English fete – and meet your friends – it’s awesome! It’s fab, the sun will shine and Pimm’s will be served. And tea and cake by the gallon! Lots of interesting stalls to visit when you’re not promoting MWG. It really is THE  MERSTHAM event of the year.

Our next Tuesday event is a trip to priory park on 10th  from 6.45 – meet at Bell Street Car park for a stroll, a major walk or just a sit and chat by the lake – I hope we can make it to a pub with a garden for a drink around 8pm. Possibly The Cage, the Blue Anchor or the Market Stores.

We also have 2 events on Saturday 14th June to choose from. A screening of Wicked courtesy of Merstham Movies at the Merstham Hub at 6pm. £4 a ticket or less if we gather a group of five or more booking at the same time. https://mycommunitycinema.org.uk/cinema/merstham-movies-mcft/

Alternatively. we have a murder mystery evening 1970’s style at St Mathews Church - £10 a head from 7.30pm

I’ll also organise a (short) summer solstice sunrise walk on 21st/22nd June at 4.30am – yes really – it’s just a 10-minute stroll down to the moors on watercolour to see the sunrise.

We had a lovely meeting in May with Gina Hewitt advise us on planting and gardening – I hope all your gardens, rockeries and window boxes are looking stunning right now! Looking forward to July -  we can travel the world from a comfy chair in Merstham Baptist Church – yes Chris Green will be telling about his life as an airline pilot. I’m afraid I’ll miss this one as I’ll be taking a flight myself – a real trains planes and automobile trip to Canada. You can tell me all about it when I’m back.

In Sepember we also have a stall at Quality Street Fair on the 7th - that's anopther lovely event.

Our big event of the autumn is a barn dance at Merstham Village Hall - 4th October - details of prices and time coming soon. The hall and band are now booked - tell your family and friends

We’re always looking for other events – open gardens, film and pub nights – do tell if you have any ideas

Our usual weekday events at the hub are still occurring and open to all. We’ll also run another pub evening soon – watch this space. Do come and meet us – we’d love to meet you.

In addition to our regular crafting events, Merstham Library are sharing a reglaur craft event of their own. Here's a message from Samantha, the library manager I hope you are well. I wanted to share with you our new Craft Club for Adults starting at Merstham Library. We will be running it weekly on a Thursday between 10.30-12pm (starting 12th June) so it shouldn’t clash with your current Craft Club timetable.  All crafts, all skill levels are welcome. We plan to bring in guest crafters to share their craft once our group is up and running. The library has many creative people working for it who would like to share their talent. We hope this will be of interest to your group and look forward to welcoming you.
