It may be wet and dreary outside but we have an evening of fun and sunshine this Saturday 28th September with a trip to Greece care of Merstham Movies. Dust down your finest summer clothes and warm up your vocal cords to sing to the best Abba Tunes as we sing along to Mamma Mia at Merstham Hub at 6.30pm. Bring change for drinks and snacks. A bargain at £4. We look forward to your Arrival from Another Town, Another Place (yes that really is an Abba Song!) Does your mother know you’ll all be Dancing Queens. OK I’ll stop the Abba references now. There’s more song references further down…. (NOOOOO get someone else to write the Blog. Someone Sensible!)
In the queue for Coldplay tickets? (Yes I’m actually in the virtual queue for those as I write!) Forget that – who needs Coldplay when you can Viva La Vida and sing along to the CoHorts band at Canada Hall. No need to be Yellow when you can be in Paradise in Merstham! We will Fix you in a Sky Full of Stars to enjoy a Hymn for the Weekend. I can’t promise the CoHorts will sing any of those songs – in fact I can guarantee they won’t play any of those songs – their singing will be far better and we can guarantee all of you front row seats and fine company. A bargain at £10 and no need to rely on the last train home from London. Bring your own drinks and snacks. We will serve hot and cold drinks and cake in the interval. We'll also have some fabulous raffle prizes. Bring friends and family – it will be a lively and fun local night out. Spread the word. Saturday 16th November – 6.30 for 7pm start. It’s going to be awesome! No more terrible song references!
We’ve settled well into our new Tuesday evening location at Merstham Baptist church on the second Tuesday of the month – we had a lovely social evening sharing tea and cake earlier this month. We also had a lovely evening at the Bletchingley Arms this week enjoying drinks and food. Look out for other social events coming up. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page, our website and email.
Our next Tuesday meeting is on Tuesday 8th October and it will be an interesting historical talk by Kathy Atherton on Suffragette Planners and Plotters. Join us from 7.30 for tea, coffee and chat before our talk begins. Free to annual members or £3 for pay as you go members. It should be an interesting talk. One to look forward to. Free parking. on local roads and 3 minutes from the bus stop. Tuesday 8th October – Merstham Baptist Church.
Wanting to look after after your health and wellbeing? If you're around on during the day, pop down to the Merstham Hub between at 11am and 3pm on 10th October to find out what's on. All sorts of local organisations will be present for you to speak with, including The Moat House surgery and the library.
Our regular weekly events still occur at the Merstham hub during the day. I am hopeful that a café outlet will be opening there in November. Keep an eye out for this. The Mix Cafe has been very much missed. We will also be planning for a Christmas event for the group in December – Venue and date to be decided soon.
Sadly we report on the passing of one of our most faithful supporters and member of many years. Rosemary Clarke died at home earlier this month. A lovely and unassuming lady with a bright mind. Known to quite a few of us for many years. She was a regular attender at All Saints Church. Always smiling and active at the annual fete. A regular at Paracise classes at the hub. At our annual quizzes she was always quietly confident at feeding us the correct answers when we loudly got them wrong! She always gained us a few extra points at the crucial time. She was a keen walker, loved the outdoors and was a regular volunteer at Friends of Merstham Parks and Greens conservation events. She enjoyed music and played the flute. In recent years, she suffered with poor health, but she was still a regular supporter at many local events. Her quiet and regular presence will be very much missed. Our condolences to her family at this time.
