February News

Updated: Feb 27

What a wonderful start to our new year. We welcome our new committee members who’ve kindly volunteered this year. Thank you for stepping forward and we also thank our existing ladies who are continuing to work hard behind the scenes to organise weekly meeting and events for everyone to enjoy.

Our February meeting was delightful. 25 members and visitors enjoyed the art of Zentangle – mindful doodling and colouring with Sally Schofield  -- a wonderfully relaxing and social start to the year. A great time has had by all our visitors

As the weather improves, we have a lot of exciting events to look forward to.

Friday 8th March – 7.30pm Ninebarrow an award-winning folk duo are performing at St Marks Church in Purley - £16.45. Please do get in touch if you’re interested in joining us. Three of us are attending and we welcome others to come along – you can hear clips of them on YouTube and on their Facebook page and website.  https://www.ninebarrow.co.uk/gigs

April Lewis will be joining us and giving an interesting talk on the History of Crime and Punishment for our meeting on 11th March. Her talks are very popular so do come early for a good seat.

Our book club meets in the Feathers on Tuesday 12th March at 8pm. Join at 7pm if you’d like to enjoy a meal first.  This month’s book is The Appeal – copies are available at Merstham Library.

Saturday 16th MAP are hosting a quiz at Canada Hall – raising funds for projects overseas in poor areas -£6 entry bring own food and drink. There’s a raffle and jam for sale. It would be great if we could provide a couple of teams from our group.

In June we will be showcasing our group at All Saint Summer Fair on the Crossways on Sunday 9th June – that should be a fabulous day.

All our usual weekly meetings at the Merstham hub continue on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday morning. Until the end of March, free tea, coffee and biscuit are available until 3pm. Whether the café fully opens then, we just don’t know.  We’ll certainly tell you when or if it opens again in April in some form. Alice has details of all her knitting and crochet sessions so do have a chat with her if you’d like to join her friendly team.

I’m looking into local music and drama events to attend in the coming weeks, both professional and amateur. If you are linked to any local groups or you know of an interesting production coming up, please do tell us.

Further ahead there will be pub walks, theatre visits and possibly a folk dance/folk evening in the autumn. One to bring friends and family to. Keep following for more details.
